Stingbat LHX Stealth Helicopter Concept
Testors 1/48 scale
By Ismael Gonzalez
Back in the late '80s, research about incorporating stealth technology into helicopters was getting serious. Testors did this concept based on the stealth technology elements of the day. This was part of a 3 model series of stealth concepts by Testors that also included the F19 stealth fighter and the Mig-37 Ferret Soviet Stealth concept. As far as I know, all 3 were purely design sketches by Testors, and not based in any specific project. Although it is very possible they had access to more than just imagination. The helicopter is the least common of the 3 models and have never been reissued.
As a teenager in the late 80's, I fell in love with this concept. Stealth
was the "IN" thing. For whatever reason I did not get
this model when it was released in 1989 and it was then impossible to find. It
has never been reissued. For years, it was almost an obsession to find.
Fast forward to early 2006, I finally found it on eBay. It was build
pretty much box stock.
Wow! This was my first aircraft built in 10 years, and my first helicopter in
almost 12 years!
